FIELDGUIDED

Fieldguided is my series of publications focusing on invertebrates, ecology and soundscapes. They are both currently out of print, but new editions will be printed in late 2019.

The first FIELDGUIDED was published for a solo exhibit by the same name at Sword & Fern in Portland, Oregon in December 2010. The exhibit featured mounted insect specimens in shadow boxes crafted by Dan Anderson of Von Tundra, drawings of insects, field recordings from collection sites, and a series of drawings of imaginary insects by artists such as Aidan Koch, Michelle Lamanet, Adam Oelsner, Dan Anderson & Liz Goltz. The Fieldguided  publication (Publication Studio 2010) includes the drawings from the show, and natural history writing with references to an audio download of field recordings that accompanies the book. The exhibit focused mainly on insects of the west coast of the United States that I had collected while touring with bands. The publication, as well as mounted specimens and drawings are available in my shop

Fieldguided II was written during a month-long residency in Joshua Tree, California at A-Z West. I was participating in a collaborative project called HITS OF SUNSHINE. I compiled this book(let) as a reward for Kickstarter supporters of the project. It includes field writing and natural history observation, drawings of insects that I collected there, and thoughts about the process of working on the music for this project, including drafts of musical notation.
